Courses of Study

The college offers three years B. Com and B.A. General and Honours courses.

Duration of study :

  • Part - I      : One Year
  • Part - II     : One Year
  • Part - III    : One Year

A student shall have to offer the following subjects at the B.A. / B.Com. (General) Part -I Examination

  • One compulsory paper of any one of the following language carrying 50 marks : 
    Bengali, Hindi, Nepali, Alternative English.
  • Three elective subjects/group each carrying 150 marks (both) theory and practical papers, wherever relevant) consisting of three halves/paper, from the following : [For B.A. ] Philosophy, Economics, Elective Bengali / English / Nepali / Hindi, Political Science, History. [For B.Com.] Group - A, Group - B, Group - C.

Note : The selected and admitted applicant(s) will be allowed to take Elective Subjects as per the availability of the seats in B.A.

A student shall have to offer the following subjects at the B.A / B.Com. (General) Part-II Examination

  • One compulsory paper of English carrying 50 marks.
  • Corresponding three elective subjects / group of Part - I Examination each carrying 150 marks consisting of three halves / paper.

A student shall have to offer the following subjects at the B.A. / B.Com. (General) Part-III Examination

  • One compulsory paper of Environmental studies carrying 50 marks.
  • Corresponding three elective subjects/group of Part - II examination carrying 300 marks.

No candidate shall be allowed to take up more than one of the following languages subject as elective : (a) English, (b) Bengali (c) Hindi (d) Nepali (e) Arabic (f) Urdu (g) Sanskrit (h) Modern Tibetan and (i) such other subjects as may be introduced by the University from time to time.

Part - I (500 marks) Part - II (500 marks) and Part - III (350 marks) altogether shall carry 1350 marks for B.A. / B.Sc. / B. Com. General three years Degree Course Examination.

B.A. / B.Com (Hons.) Part - I Examination shall consist of the following papers 

  • One Honours subject of 200 marks consisting of two theory / Practical papers (In case of geography consisting of four papers carrying 50 marks each)
  • Two elective subjects / group each carrying 150 marks consisting of three halves/paper.
  • One compulsory paper of any one of the following languages carrying 50 marks : Bengali, Hindi, Nepali, Alternative English.
  • A candidate prosecuting Honours in a Language subject shall not be allowed to take up the same subject as elective.

B.A. / B. Com. (Hons.) Part - II Examination shall consist of the same subjects as above except 

  • Compulsory English in place of the M.I.L. / Alternative Language Paper of 50 marks.

Part - III Examination

  • One Honours subject corresponding to Part - II examination of 400 marks consisting of theoretical / Practical Papers.
  • One Compulsory paper of Environmental studies carrying 50 marks.

A. Subjects for B.A. Part - I (Hons.)

As applicant can apply for a maximum three (3) subjects out the following :
  • Hons. in Geography
  • Hons. in English
  • Hons. in Political Science
  • Hons. in Bengali
  • Hons. in Nepali
  • Hons. in History
  • Hons. in Hindi
  • Hons. in Sociology

B. Subjects for B.Com (Hons) :

  1. Hons. in Accountancy,
  2. Hons. in Management

C. Subjects for Geography (Pass) Part - I

  1. Admission to the limited number of seats will be made strictly through the selection on merit-ranks basis.
  2. Such students will take two optional / elective subjects besides Geography (General) from the following, History, Sociology, Economics, Philosophy, Elective Bengali / Nepali / Hindi. Note : Neither Geography Hons. Students nor students with Geography (Pass) can opt. in for Political Science or English as an Elective Subject.
  3. Such students will also Take one Major Indian Language, from below:
    Compulsory Bengali or,
    Alternative English or,
    Compulsory Hindi or,
    Compulsory Nepali.
